UPDATE: Congratulations to our winners: Silvia Fisher and Michelle Olson. Plus, at the end of this post, check out the photo gallery of vintage prom pics submitted by readers.
ORIGINAL POST: Hopefully your high school prom went better than Carrie’s. Then again, the musical “Carrie” — based on the classic Stephen King novel about a girl with telekinetic powers who is picked on by her classmates — is pretty much the baseline for a prom from hell, so that isn’t saying much.

Still, to get you in the high school mood, and to mark the new production of “Carrie” at the Selma Arts Center, the Munro Review is giving away two pairs of tickets for any opening weekend performance. Plus, as a winner, you’ll get two extra special perks: a backstage tour after the show AND a photo onstage with the cast.
Here’s how you enter: Leave a comment on this post describing what you (and your date, if you wish) wore to your high school prom. Let us know about it in excruciating detail, if you’d like. If anyone dumped a bucket of blood on you at any point during the evening, that might not give you an extra boost in terms of scoring the tickets (I pick winners at random), but it sure would make for some interesting reading.
And, if you really want to get into the spirit of the occasion, send me an email (donaldfresnoarts@gmail.com) with your prom photo. I’ll publish reader photos when I announce the winners.
If you didn’t go to your prom, or it was so long ago that your attire is lost in the mists of memory, tell us why you’d like to see “Carrie.”
In the meantime, I’ll let you luxuriate in my own high-school prom photo, pictured below. I’m not as interested in the fussy black tuxedo as my mop of hair, in which my bangs seem to have eaten my forehead.

You have your choice of four performances opening weekend: 7 p.m. Friday, July 28; 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, July 29; or 2 p.m. Sunday, July 30. The show is at the Selma Arts Center, 1935 High St., Selma.
You’ll be able to pick up your tickets at Will Call. Deadline to enter is 10 a.m. Thursday, July 27. I’ll get back to the winners that morning. You must be 18 (or have your parents’ permission) to enter. So (1) go to www.MunroReview.com and describe your prom get up in the comments; (2) you can also email me a prom pic of you, and I’ll be posting it along with other readers’ pic (donaldfresnoarts@gmail.com).

my prom dress was pretty plain, a red chiffon halter dress that landed mid shin. the most interesting part though was of course ladies will also make a big deal about what shoes they wear and the theme was “dancing in the street” and it was literally held in the street right in front of the fox theater in Hanford and every grl there wound up ditching the expensive shoes in the corner

I went with the boy I liked best friend and wore my sisters prom dress and heels! Definitely was an interesting night!

1987 – My Grandma made my dress, seafoam green (since my mom refused to allow black), asymmetrical, with a bow on the shoulder. It was prettier than it sounds!

I didn’t go to my prom. Instead, I was running sound for a musical on the night of my prom. Totally worth it.

I went to a private Christian school we didn’t have a prom because we had less then ten people in our graduating class. It was a really small school.

Oh Lord.
Baby blue tux. No pictures remain that I know of, thank goodness.
I spent the night chasing my date around as she chased Dave Severing around, while he chased Kim Tonione, his date. It was awful.
