I‘m giving away two tickets to opening night of Broadway in Fresno’s “Les Miserables.”
The touring production, which is finishing up a run at San Francisco’s Orpheum Theatre, opens at the Saroyan Theatre on Tuesday, July 25. It runs for seven performances through July 30.
This version of “Les Miserables” is based on the 2014 Broadway production. Along with minor changes to the score, the production eliminates the mechanical turntable that marked the original production and makes extensive use of projections.
The contest is open to members, donors and individual sponsors of The Munro Review. Tax-deductible memberships start at $5 a month, and you can make a one-time donation of as little as $3. (Paid memberships help keep the site running, and paid members get special members-only benefits. Please consider a paid membership in support of independent, local arts journalism.) A free membership option is available. For details on how to join, go to the Membership and Sponsorship page. No purchase, donation or membership is necessary to enter the ticket giveaway.
To enter this giveaway, leave a reply on this post (see below) answering this question: Who is your favorite character in “Les Miserables”? Or, if you’re shy, just tell us why you’d like to win the tickets. Deadline to enter is 6 p.m. Sunday, July 23. I’ll be picking the winner at random and sending an email notification that evening.

Fresno has long had a pleuthora of entertainment options, but un-like opening the New York Times and seeing huge one page adds for a Broadway Show, some-times, one has to do a little scouting out to find, a venue, one might enjoy. And then one has to support that option and attend. If Fresno wants to continue having the Arts perform here, support is critical! Les Miz, is one option, but there are also many others, Support the Arts!

Favorite character? I love the Thenardiers.

Eponine! “On My Own” is one of the most gorgeous musical theatre pieces and every time I hear it I’m instantly taken back to Sharon Burley’s top-tier performance in our production at StageWorks Fresno.
Would love the chance to catch a professional production.

Cosette is my favorite character!

Eponine has always been a favorite, but this show is one of my alltime favorites. The first show I was ever part of was CMTs production of Les Mis in 2004. I’ve been hooked on stagecraft ever since.

Jean Valjean. He drives the story from beginning to end. The long opening sequence is powerful!

One of the best shows ever! I would love to see it. I love Fantine and her “I Dreamed A Dream.”

Cosette because she endures so much as she grows up, yet is still able to hold hope. I like that in a person–always hold hope!

So many good characters- I like the Thenardier just for the comic relief in the midst of such serious themes.

Senior living makes it difficult to afford tickets to Broadway plays, but I would love to see Les Miserables.

The Innkeeper! Not a very likable character, but an interesting one!

I’m a stoic person, but on the rare occasion that I’ve seen a musical in person, I always weep. Upbeat or tragic storyline…I’m moved on a psychic subterranean level.

Cosette. She is the innocent yet strong willed survivor of a childhood of personal isolation amid chaos and an adult world of chaos and turmoil through which she remains hopeful. I kind of identify. Probably why it’s my favorite

I’d love to win because it’s always been a dream of mine to see a Broadway play. What better than Les Miserables?!
