Exposure to music of any kind enlightens the brain. Children need this—not just for music. Because in our demographic area, many kids don’t have a chance to attend a classical or other type of musical presentation. Therefore, I would encourage our school districts to keep musical instruments and instruction available in primary grades through high school. Also, field trips to morning or afternoon short concerts would be a plus.

The best way to encourage young people to attend is to bring them, make it a family experience from a young age. Give them exposure so that they may appreciate it as they grow up.

I think that young people would be interested if they understood how classical music influences contemporary music.

younger folks could be encouraged to attend by communicating to them that the music being performed has a connection to their lives-that the stories told in the music, the musicians performing have lives and stories much like their own, that there is a “benefit” to them by attending, listening, engaging with the music–and, if the orchestras performed pieces that would not be considered “white”–

I think a good way to encourage young people to attend concerts is to introduce music to them at an early age. Also school trips are wonderful experiences. I remember a trip to see our local philharmonic to this day.
