We’ve kept you well informed on this site about Benjamin Boone’s groundbreaking “The Poetry of Jazz” series, which he made with poet superstar Philip Levine, who has since passed away. Volume 2 of the series came out last week, and Boone will be celebrating with a release party (7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, Cal Arts Severance). You can win a pair of tickets to the event.
The contest is open only to members, donors and individual sponsors of The Munro Review. Tax-deductible memberships start at $5 a month, and you can make a one-time donation of as little as $3. (Paid memberships help keep the site running, and paid members get special members-only benefits. Please consider a paid membership in support of independent, local arts journalism.) A free membership option is available. For details on how to join, go to the Membership and Sponsorship page. No purchase, donation or membership is necessary to enter the ticket giveaway.
To enter this giveaway, leave a reply on this post below answering this question: If you, Boone and his saxophone were the only things stuck on a desert island, would you a) ask him to keep playing for you; or b) turn the saxophone into an ingenious fishing device so you could eat? (Yes, this is a weird question. You can also enter by telling us why you want to go to the concert.) Deadline to enter is 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29. Winners will be picked at random and notified by email.

I live in Visalia and have no idea where to buy tickets for the Boone presentation. Soooo, I am entering to win the 2 tickets. If Dr. Boone and his saxophone were on an island with me, I’d request that he play, so the passing school of fish would jump right into our fine kettle.

We would need to eat first so the instrument can help with that. Multi talented Boone would devise or invent a new instrument after we had our fill.
I’d like to attend the launch party. I was in one of Levine’s advance poetry writing classes in early 1990s. He would read to us then as well as make caustic comments on our submissions. I loved his humor and of course voice.

Ask Ben to keep playing for me, of course

I’ve enjoyed presentations by Phillip Levine but not Mr Boone. It sounds like a marvelous idea. I would love to go.

I’d have him continue playing. While I may starve to death, I’ll go with a smile on my face.

Benjamin Boone is an incredible and creative artist and person. We love his pre concert comment for the philharmonic and are so pleased for the recognition he is enjoying with his Phillip Levine CD Collaborations. Would love to take his fresno state classes. We already have this release event in our calendar.

I was at the initial live performance of Poetry of Jazz, Jazz of Poetry at the Tower held as a fund raiser for Fresno Filmworks. It was an incredible event and I wish to re-live, as much as possible, that wonderful feeling of the mixing of jazz with poetry/poetry with jazz.
Phil used to work out at Gold’s Gym and was always very kind and down to earth. Ben is an incredible musician.
