here are lots of artistic ways to usher in the holidays. At Fresno Pacific University, one of the most popular is the annual “Arise, Shine, For Thy Light Is Come: A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.”
I’m giving away a pair of tickets to the one-time performance (3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, in University Presbyterian Church, 1776 E. Roberts Ave.).
This mix of readings and music, including congregational singing, will combine talents of the university and the Fresno community. Ensembles will be the FPU Concert and Chamber choirs, Fresno Choral Artists, the University Presbyterian Church Handbell Choir and San Joaquin Chorale.
Fresno State music professor Jeffrey S. Wilson is artistic director of the event.
The contest is open to members, donors and individual sponsors of The Munro Review. Tax-deductible memberships start at $5 a month, and you can make a one-time donation of as little as $3. (Paid memberships help keep the site running, and paid members get special members-only benefits. Please consider a paid membership in support of independent, local arts journalism.) A free membership option is available. For details on how to join, go to the Membership and Sponsorship page. No purchase, donation or membership is necessary to enter the ticket giveaway.
To enter this giveaway, leave a reply on this post (see below) answering this question: What is your favorite carol? (If you’d rather just tell us why you want to see the concert, that’s fine, too.) Deadline to enter is 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5. The winner will be picked at random and notified by email. Please remember to check your email on Thursday afternoon to see if you’re a winner.
The Munro Review has no paywall but is financially supported by readers who believe in its non-profit mission of bringing professional arts journalism to the central San Joaquin Valley. You can help by signing up for a monthly recurring paid membership or make a one-time donation of as little as $3. All memberships and donations are tax-deductible. The Munro Review is funded in part by the City of Fresno Measure P Expanded Access to Arts and Culture Fund administered by the Fresno Arts Council.
