Just three performances remain of Shine! Theatre’s “The Room Next Door (Or the Vibrator Play),” the local premiere of this acclaimed 2009 work by Sara Ruhl. I’m planning to post my review on Wednesday, but here’s a sneak peek: It’s a witty, insightful and intimate production with an exceptionally strong cast, solid direction and an empowering message. (Plus, you’ll never think quite the same way about electricity again.) This sort of boundary-pushing play is what good, local, in-your-face theater should be.
For more details on the show: I interviewed cast member Kylee Leyva about the production last week.
For the second and final weekend, I’m giving two pairs of tickets away good for any of the three remaining performances (8 p.m. Feb. 17-19, The Revue). The contest is open to members, donors and individual sponsors of The Munro Review.
Tax-deductible memberships start at $5 a month, and you can make a one-time donation of as little as $3. (Paid memberships help keep the site running, and paid members get special members-only benefits. Please consider a paid membership in support of independent, local arts journalism.) A free membership option is available.
For details on how to join, go to the Membership and Sponsorship page. No purchase, donation or membership is necessary to enter the ticket giveaway.
To enter this giveaway, leave a reply on this post (see the comments field below) answering this question: Before Shine! Theatre opened it in Fresno, had you heard of “In the Next Room (Or the Vibrator Play)”? (Or, if you prefer, you can just say why you want to see the show.) Deadline to enter is 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16. The winner will be picked at random and notified by email.

I was one of the readers for this play for Backyard Reader’s Theatre Lab. It’s a powerful piece– planning to see this production even if I don’t win the tickets!

The inimitable Joyce Aiken loved the show! Her recommendation coupled with your astute observations…and my personal love of vibrators…well, it’s irresistible!

I have heard of this play & I’ve read it before. It was a play we read during the backyard reader’s theatre project Julie Lucido started. It’s a great play!

I had heard of The Vibrator Play but it was kind of the back of my mind. I’d like to see this production.
