The event: The 2021 Cello│Fresno – International Cello Festival, which Fresno State music professor Thomas Loewenheim describes as one of the premiere cello festivals in the U.S.
The concert: “Cello Mania,” featuring the Fresno State Symphony Orchestra, festival faculty and winners of the concerto competition, will be performed 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Concert Hall. Tickets are $15 general, $12 seniors, $8 students.
The program: Works for cello and orchestra by Faure, Glazunov, Hadley, Popper, Rossini, Saint-Saëns, and
Tchaikovsky.
The artistic directors: Loewenheim is joined by Emilio Colón, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music; and Cara Elise Colón, American Cello Institute.
The guest artists: The lineup includes Theodore Buchholz, University of Arizona; Thomas Landschoot, Arizona State University; Brian Schuldt, Felici Piano Trio; and Andrew Smith, University of Nevada Las Vegas.
The concerto competition: It will take place 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at the Concert Hall. (It’s free.)
