Keyboard Concerts (Oct. 15)
The next Keyboard Concerts performance (7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15) features Israeli born pianist Ran Dank, who returns to the series together with his wife, Korean born pianist Soyeon Kate Lee. Both are prize winners at numerous prestigious competitions. The concert is sponsored by the Friends of Anita Shanahan in honor of her 102nd birthday. I’m giving away a pair of tickets. Deadline to enter: 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14.
California Opera’s ‘Norma’ (Oct. 17)
Edna Garabedian’s company is returning after a pandemic absence, this time featuring the classic Bellini opera “Norma” (2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17) at the California Arts Academy (North Blackstone location). Jamie Bonetto stars in the title role, with Todd Wilander, a Metropolitan Opera tenor, appearing as Pollione. With a live chamber ensemble and a troupe of dancers, the intimate production seats just 100 in the audience. I’m giving away a pair of tickets. Deadline to enter: 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15.
‘A Scotch, Brew and Art Affair’ (Oct. 17)
The Edward O. Lund Foundation offers its annual fundraiser that raises money for art students at Fresno State. The event (4-7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17) at Campus Pointe) includes fine Scotch, fine beer and fine art — all loves of Ed Lund, who passed away several years ago — all wrapped up into a festive atmosphere that includes appetizers from Mad Duck Brewery. I’m giving away three pairs of tickets, so your chances of winning are increased. Deadline to enter: 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16.
‘CATS’ (Oct. 26)
Broadway in Fresno returns! “CATS,” the first production of the post-vaccine era, opens Tuesday, Oct. 26, at the Saroyan Theatre — and you can be there on opening night. I’m giving away a pair of tickets to opening night. Deadline to enter: 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20.
‘This is Our Youth’ (Oct. 29)
Fresno State’s Brad Myers directs Kenneth Lonergan’s acclaimed “This is Our Youth,” ranked one of “The 25 Best American Plays of the last 25 Years” by The New York Times. It opens Oct. 29 and runs through Nov. 6. I’m giving away a pair of tickets to any performance. Deadline to enter: 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 25.
‘Hot Flashes: The Musical’ (Oct. 29)
Yes, there is a musical for everything, including hot flashes. The Visalia Players is turning up the temperature with this musical revue about an all-female rock band going through the “second half of life.” It opens Oct. 29 and runs through Nov. 21. I’m giving away a pair of tickets to any performance. Deadline to enter: Monday, Oct. 25.
‘Sunday Night Live’ (Oct. 31)
You don’t want to miss the next Good Company Players evening romp (7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31.) Yes, there will be candy and a costume contest, along with music and improv comedy from Brunch, GCP’s improvisation troupe. I’m giving away a pair of tickets. Deadline to enter: 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26.
