You can win a pair of tickets to the Valley Performing Arts Council’s production of “The Nutcracker” (6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, and 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, Saroyan Theatre). Santa Barbara’s acclaimed State Street Ballet returns with a full company of professional dancers to perform the classic. They will join talented dance students from across the central San Joaquin Valley in the production. Choreographers Rodney Gustafson and Marina Fliagina created numbers to Tchaikovsky’s original score.
Says Yukari Thiesen, artistic director for VPAC: “This particular ballet is often people’s first introduction to live ballet and a longstanding tradition for many families. Not only is it audience friendly, The Nutcracker is very unusual in that it includes so many children throughout the performance. I can’t think of another classical ballet that uses children this much, and in that way it’s very special.”
